Former F1 driver Jos Verstappen given Red Bull a major warning surrounding his son Max Verstappen. He revealed that there was no guarantee that the 21-year old will remain at Red Bull beyond 2020.

Admittedly, most of the speculation is surrounding who will partner him in 2020 at Red Bull. However, some eyes are already looking towards 2021, with rumours saying that the Dutchman would be on his way to Mercedes. This was when Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko revealed that Max Verstappen had certain performance clauses in his contract.

Victories in Austria and Germany would close any route out of the Red Bull for the 2020 season. However, it is worth noting that his current deal will expire after next year, and his father is triggering the whispers.

“The most important thing is that we get a car with which Max can compete for the title,” he divulged to Ziggo Sport.

“Next year we will be at Red Bull anyway, but everything is still open for 2021.”

On a realistic note, Mercedes is the most likely alternative, especially since Jos is good friends with team boss Toto Wolff. What is also important to consider is that Valtteri Bottas only signed to a one-year deal.

However, Max Verstappen himself has also triggered a few rumours of his own, concerning Ferrari. The Dutchman has expressed interest in working alongside Charles Leclerc, since the Monegasque driver is firmly at Maranello for a few more years yet.

“It will really depend on whether we will get a car in 2020 we can fight for the championship,” Jos continued.

“We are concentrating on next season and will look further afterwards.”

For now though, Verstappen and Red Bull will be looking ahead to next weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix. Red Bull have won three times in a row, from 2011 to 2013, albeit with Sebastian Vettel. Vettel and Hamilton are the only two drivers on the current F1 grid to have won in Singapore. In addition to that, the two, along with Fernando Alonso have won with different manufacturers.
