The co-main event of UFC 244 features a middleweight bout between former title contenders, Kelvin Gastelum and Darren Till and there is a lot on the stake in this fight. Darren Till is looking for a fresh start in his MMA career after two consecutive losses in welterweight division. While Kelvin Gastelum is on a mission for middleweight gold after his failed attempt to capture the interim middleweight title.

The former middleweight number one title contender, Kelvin Gastelum is making it clear that he needs to make a statement against Till this Saturday to claim another shot at the title. Gastelum claimed:

“I got to go out there and I got to make a statement, put a stamp on Darren Till. Unfortunately, he is the one that is on my way. I got to put him out in a devastating fashion so that I can make the world remember who I am.”

Kelvin Gastelum believes that Darren Till is vulnerable on the ground, something that was exposed in Till’s fight against Woodley. Hence he is pretty confident that he will be able to submit till if the fight goes to the ground. “There is a possibility that it could go on the ground and I could submit him,” said Gastelum.

In his last fight, Kelvin Gastelum fought Israel Adesanya for the interim title and lost the fight by a razor-sharp split decision. However, Gastelum believes a win over Darren Till will certainly put him at a spot from where he can shoot for the title again. Gastelum said:

“I am here to redeem myself. I lost my last fight, very close fight. I want to be able to prove to the world that I should be at the top. That was a close fight and I want to be able to make my case for the rematch.”

The middleweight division looks stacked at the moment. We have the former champion, Robert Whittaker, number one title contender, Paulo Costa, and some strong contenders such as Jared Cannonier looking for a shot at the champion, Israel Adesanya. However, the rematch between Kelvin Gastelum and Israel Adesanya will certainly make sense if he goes out there and wins spectacularly.
