Lewis Hamilton And Mercedes F1 Team Nominated for Prestigious Laureus Award

Sports awards that every sportsperson looks forward is none other than Laureus Awards. The penultimate of the award in the region of sports is this one. The nominations are already out and Lewis Hamilton is again in the nominations leading motorsport.

The awards are focusing on motorsport and gaining their recognition in the genre. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes, and female racing driver, Sophia Floersch have all received nominations for the award.

Lewis Hamilton has been nominated for the award in the category of Sportsperson of the Year. The recent years have seen the award going to Tennis players and the last motorsport person to win the award was Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton would be going up against Lionel Messi, Rafael Nadal, and Tiger Woods. The nominations of motorsport have gone up twice as 4 nominations take place this time.

Winning his sixth world title and he is just one behind to break the record of Michael Schumacher which is a huge deal in the world of racing. His year of 2019 was a great racing feat for the driver.

Out of 21 races he did this year, he won 11 and had 17 podium positions. With a win percentage of more than 52.4%, he clinched another championship title. His team Mercedes has also been nominated for the ‘Best Team of the Year’ award.

His astounding achievements have made him the nominee of the most prestigious award. The one sports award that binds every other part of it makes it the one which comes out on top.

The previous winner of this award was Novak Djokovic. The only motorsport driver to win this award twice has been Michael Schumacher 2002 and 2004. Lewis Hamilton, who is nearly equaling the veteran’s record is a high prospect for this year.

The 17th of February will see the awards take place in Berlin this time. All will be decided in the German City.
