It was heartbreak for pole-sitter Charles LeClerc as a battery issue put paid to their race. The Monegasque driver built a healthy lead but then started to inexplicably lose power. Soon, Lewis Hamilton caught the 21-year old and passed him. Bottas soon followed his teammate after a while. Max Verstappen was hunting down the Ferrari when the safety car came out, to LeClerc’s relief.

On the team radio, the team congratulated Hamilton for the win, but he admitted that he was lucky to win. Even during the post race interview, he said that LeClerc still has many more wins left.

The next race will be Formula One’s 1000th race and it would be quite special if LeClerc could have the honour of being the winner there in China.
