Sebastian Vettel has massive admiration for Lewis Hamilton and the two get along very well. Similarly, Hamilton has also had a lot of respect for the German Ferrari driver and often defended him against critics.

With the Mercedes driver poised to win his sixth F1 championship, Vettel believes that Hamilton deserves the success.

Speaking to the press in Mexico, Sebastian Vettel dismissed any talk of jealousy towards the Briton. Instead the Ferrari driver believes that Hamilton deserves his superior results.

“I wouldn’t call it that,” Vettel said. “I appreciate his efforts, achievements and successes very much. I think he deserves it,” he explains to the press after the Mexican Grand Prix. “That makes me jealous because they have something we miss.”

Vettel believes that Hamilton deserves respect for what he has achieved with Mercedes.

“This is really the only way to deal with it. If you don’t do that, I wouldn’t know either. If it had been me based on my experience and values, that would be wrong.”

Despite having some good races in recent weeks, Vettel has really struggled this season and will hope Ferrari and his performances improve for next year.“There are no guarantees that the situation will stay that way next year, so there is always hope in looking ahead.”

Ferrari will hope that they are more competitive and that they start the season next year like they have finished this one.

Speaking about considering Hamilton as one of the greats, he said, ” For me it is very clear, he absolutely is. He has been in this sport for a long time, and he is one of the most successful drivers. After Michael, I believe it is right to put his name.”

“I believe it is not correct to compare achievements with names like Ascari or Fangio. Every driver must be judged in his time, and Lewis is undoubtedly a great professional who stood out among all the drivers of his generation.”
