With the clock running down on Mario Götze’s contract at Bayern Munich, the World Cup winner has attracted the attention of Premier League clubs, with Liverpool and Arsenal in the chase. But the prospect of the German linking up with former boss Jürgen Klopp makes the Anfield side favourites to sign him.

Götze signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2013, but has found it hard to be a regular in Pep Guardiola’s side, having made only 12 appearances this season. The Bavarians value him at £30m, but Liverpool are hoping to get the deal done in £15m-£20m as his contract runs out at the end of next season. The imminent arrival of Carlo Ancelotti as the new boss in Munich is also not enough to make Götze change his mind and sign an extension.
