“I didn’t expect it to go quite like this. I think it was just a very good professional performance overall. No regrets at all, just very satisfied,” said the star chess player, Carlsen.

The player even tweeted an iconic picture of NBA legend, late Kobe Bryant, commemorating his 5th title win.

However, the win was far from easy. Carlsen’s opponent, Russia’s Ian Nepomniachtchi, put his best foot forward, drawing the first five games initially, before falling victim to Magnus’ masterclass.

“After five games there were five draws and I’d had very, very few chances to play for anything more,” Magnus said, speaking of the championship.

The secret to Carlsen’s success story

The game of chess has seen significant technological updates after the introduction of supercomputers. Moreover, most players play for hours on the software, understanding the computer’s tactics and strategies to further better their game.

However, Magnus Carlsen’s coach recently revealed that he is actually one of the few top players who spend the least amount of time with computers and isn’t influenced by them in any way.

“Magnus is proud of saying that he’s probably the top player who works the least with the computer and is the least influenced by the computer,” said Carlsen’s coach, Peter Heine Nielsen.

Carlsen believes in keeping the game human. Perhaps this is what gave him the edge over his competitor, as he became the World Champion once again.
