Ryan Sessegnon has been making a lot of headlines this season, and the latest ones say that he may be on his way to Old Trafford next summer. Sources point to Manchester United showing considerable interest in him.
The 17-year-old fullback has scored 15 goals and set up 6 more this season for Premier League hopefuls Fulham. This has resulted in manager Slavisa Jokanovic moving him from defence to the wings. His good form was amply rewarded as well: he won the Championship Player of the Year, Young Player of the Season, Apprentice of the Year, and
was named in the Team of the Season and the EFL Club Developed XI.
The Londoners are currently third in the Championships and need only 1 point from their remaining 2 games to ensure an automatic qualification. Despite the England U-21 star’s repeated declarations that he is going to feature for the Craven Cottage outfit in the near future, a number of sources including The Times has claimed that he is likely to leave the club soon. Tottenham Hotspurs were initially suggested to be his likely destination, but it seems Manchester United is the favorite to sign him now.
Manchester United’s manager, Jose Mourinho has been dealing with a full-back crisis all season. With Antonio Valencia turning 33 in the summer and with the gaffer neither trusting Luke Shaw nor Matteo Darmian, Sessegnon is said to be touted as a long-term solution to the problem. His natural attacking instincts along with his ability to read the game and defend accordingly will make him “this summer’s hottest transfer target”, according to Betstars Director of Trading Ian Marmion. According to him, ”Manchester United have leapfrogged Tottenham in the race for Sessegnon and are now the 2/1 favourites to snap up the in-demand defender.”
It remains to be seen which club manages to lure the promising starlet, and it also remains to be seen if he can deliver on the unquestionable talent that he has shown so far. Keep watching this space for more updates on this story.
