In the 2019 Formula one season, Max Verstappen was one of the standout performers and was easily among the top 3 best drivers of the year. During the 2019 season, Verstappen clinched victory in three races for the new partners Honda. So Red Bull team principal Christian Horner showered praises on the Dutchman and believes that he brings out the best in the team.
Although nobody could stop the rampant Mercedes duo, Max Verstappen jumped over both Ferrari drivers to finish third in the Drivers’ Championship. In addition to the trio of race wins, he also got the monkey off his back by grabbing his maiden pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

So it wasn’t surprising to see that he is a strong contender for the driver of the year, alongside the likes of Lewis Hamilton. One can be sure that he and Red Bull will be eager to challenge Mercedes and Ferrari for the 2020 championship, and they firmly believe that Max Verstappen is the right man.

“Max has no ego problems, is very accessible and therefore so popular in the garage and with the company,” Horner gushed to Formule 1 Magazine.

“You see that everyone wants to take an extra step for him: because they believe in Max and fully support him. The hours they all spend in the garage to get all parts on the car and constantly improve it: that is unprecedented. That’s nice to hear. It’s just very easy to have a conversation with him. You know, you can’t always talk about racing cars.”
Admittedly, Red Bull could have finished higher in the championship, but Verstappen had to shoulder most of the responsibility. Though for 2020, the Bulls have a strong lineup of Alexander Albon alongside Verstappen, and the two are certainly quick. However, in 2021 Red Bull will have to somehow tighten their hold on the duo as Mercedes and Ferrari will be on the prowl to lure them away.
