The Aston Martin Red Bull Honda team have enjoyed a fairly great maiden season with Honda. However, Jos Verstappen is a hard man to please, as he believes that the team lost it after the summer break. Speaking to the Limburger, the former F1 driver confessed that the gap to Ferrari and Mercedes is ‘painful’. The father of Max Verstappen simply cannot see any progress made by the Austrian outfit

According to Jack van Gelder, Red Bull has not been part of the title fight since the summer break. Verstappen Sr agreed and put forward his theory behind the team’s slump and boils it down to taking too long.

He said, “We should be closer, but it’s harder than we think. It frustrates enormously. It went well before the summer break, but we didn’t grow after that. We stand still where others make progress. Max can’t do much about it, after all, he depends on the team. We remain behind in terms of chassis and engine, so we have to work hard on both levels. We can’t do anything else.”

The 47-year old also expressed his concern for the coming season and how prepared Red Bull are. According to Jos, who is also the manager of Max Verstappen, it will be a difficult year.

However, he affirmed that he and Max Verstappen will talk to the team to discuss their progress. He continued, “It really makes me despondent, yes. We have been busy for a few years now and it doesn’t look like we can compete for the prizes in the short term.”

As a parting note, Jos Verstappen revealed that the disappointments are beginning to get to Max. He concluded “You also saw that a bit in the last games. Max ‘interviews at Ziggo are becoming increasingly minor. You notice that there is frustration. Max does everything but it doesn’t work; that makes it harder.”
