In an unusual turn of events, the McLaren and the Renault teams could miss Free Practice 1. As it turns out, the two’s oil supplier is Castrol and the shipment was delayed by a typhoon. According to sources, the shipment has reached customs in Tokyo. However, No oil means that there will be no driving on Friday.

However, Red Bull are not as badly affected by the delay since they use Mobil 1. The Castrol oil, used by Renault and McLaren is said to have less power than Mobil 1 and Esso. This could be potentially disastrous for Renault in their battle with Haas for 4th in the constructors.

This kind of mishap could also affect the McLaren’s attempts to set a decent performance in Suzuka. It also means that both teams could lose valuable data from the lack of running. Especially when compared to their rivals in the midfield. Can Castrol come through for the British and French outfits?
