Mercedes Boss Sympathises With Nikita Mazepin Over Haas F1 Exit

It is a troubled time at Haas. The American team has had to drop its title sponsor, Uralkali, where Russian billionaire Dmitry Mazepin is a majority shareholder. This also means Haas has parted ways with their driver Nikita Mazepin, son of Dimitri.
Now, everyone is eagerly waiting for Haas’ next move. Everyone has their take on the matter. Even big names, like Toto Wolff, have also commented on the situation.

Mercedes boss’s take on Haas decision
Although FIA allowed Russian drivers to compete under neutral flags, Haas still went ahead and sacked Mazepin. In light of this, Toto Wolff sympathizes with the driver. However, he also understands why Haas made the call.
In an interview with BloombergTV, the Mercedes team principal said “I’m in two minds because for Nikita himself he is a guy that merits to be in Formula 1, he can drive,”…”I think as an athlete it is a difficult but to support the robust sanctions you can understand why.”

This season was something of a make-or-break for the American team. A dismal 2021 led them to make a bold call to pool all their resources for the 2022 season. However, Haas has not had much luck so far in regards to this season.
They are currently in the process of taking a call on the future of the second Haas seat. Pietro Fittipaldi is the front runner with Antonio Giovinazzi, Nico Hulkenberg, and Oscar Piastri as other notable options.
