According to Red Bull motorsport advisor, Dr Helmut Marko, Max Verstappen is a driver who is in high demand. As it turns out, one team who is keeping tabs of the Dutchman is Mercedes.

The 21-year old Dutchman has been highly impressive ever since he first graced the sport with his presence. Max Verstappen has often been a contender for race wins, though a world championship is yet to roll his way. So far, Max Verstappen has racked up five race victories. So, it comes as no surprise that he is seeking a championship winning car in the near future.

Red Bull made a daring switch to Honda power after poor relations with Renault. They hope that their new partners are capable of delivering Max Verstappen and teammate Pierre Gasly a faster car. But that will not deter the sharks from sniffing the bait and possibly hooking him.

Speaking to Auto Bild, Marko revealed that 6-time constructor’s champions, Mercedes have already made a move for Max Verstappen. They spoke to the driver and his father Jos about a potential switch to Mercedes beyond the 2020 Formula One season.

“Toto Wolff has called him and his father Jos already for months, but I’m relaxed, the performance clause in Max’s contract should be safe and he feels comfortable with us, and if we provide him with championship-worthy material, I’m not worried, he’ll stay.”

However, with Valtteri Bottas now in the form of his life, following a dismal 2018, this have become complicated. Max Verstappen will also have to contend with Mercedes junior driver and arch-rival, Esteban Ocon. The Frenchman is watching and waiting on the sidelines should an opportunity arise. Ocon lost his seat at Racing Point to Lance Stroll, with Sergio Perez retaining his own seat.
