According to F Uno Analisi Tecnica, Mercedes has recently turned on its 2020 power unit prototype. They believe that it will be the biggest upgrade for the German giant since the 2014 season.

If that is the case, there could be a strong possibility that F1 fans could be in for another few years of Mercedes dominance. However, the website also claimed that Ferrari are also working hard to play catch up. First and foremost, though, they desperately need to buck up and have a stronger second half of the 2019 season.

To that end, Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto said, “The next ones are tracks on which we should be fine but the others are strong and we must not underestimate them” .

Ferrari will be eager to at least win in Monza, their own stomping grounds, or it would be highly embarrassing. For this reason, the Italian team will bring in a new upgrade to its power unit to Spa Francorchamps. This upgrade has promised an improvement in efficiency rather than a spasmodic search for additional power.

At the same time, the Maranello outfit are seeking to improve the reliability, which has been the bane of Sebastian Vettel and Charles LeClerc in some phases of the championship. This has cost them some crucial results here and there and it has hurt them in the championship.

Admittedly, it is not the horsepower that is the issue, according to F Uno Analisi Tecnica. Instead, the problem lies with the electronics in the power unit owing to cooling problems which, among other things, have not allowed the use of the advanced control unit so far.

Meanwhile the Mercedes team are simply running away with the 2019 championship. With that said, Lewis Hamilton is well on his way to nabbing a 6th F1 World Championship. Although Red Bull and Max Verstappen are catching up, it could be too late for the Austrian team to make a difference.
