Memphis Depay Believes FC Barcelona Is Still ‘The Biggest Club in the World’ Despite Poor Performances

In what has turned to be the biggest fall from grace, FC Barcelona is in trouble. When club legend Lionel Messi left Spain, fans were furious at the board for failing to retain the player. Likewise, their transfer recruitment in recent seasons has not been exemplary owing to the enormous debts they face. Even though they have a young and talented squad, they clearly lack a star player. Memphis Depay came in to provide the spark needed but did not build upon his good start. However, the player reassured that although the club is going on a tough phase, it will rise again.

In an interview, Depay was asked if he regretted moving to Barcelona. His answer was curt and dismissive.

“How dare you ask me this question. It’s Barcelona man. The biggest club in the world. We are just going through a tough patch. I don’t regret my choice,” said Depay.

He enjoyed a good start to the season, scoring two goals and providing an assist in his first three games. But, the goals have dried up for the Dutch forward. Despite languishing in ninth place, Depay is happy at the club and believes they will rise again.

“Despite results, I’m really happy at the club. It’s been a difficult time. I don’t want to talk about that much, but people are acting like the season is already over,” said Depay.

Barcelona will hope that he can find his scoring boots soon because he is important to the team. But, with many young talents in the squad, he is right to believe the club can come back.

There are many young talents in the squad. Pedri, Ansu Fati, and Gavi are upcoming talents in their roster. Pedri is already playing for the Spanish national team as a midfielder and looks incredibly promising. With Fati playing on the wings, they have two fantastic talents to build upon.

Frenkie de Jong is another player who will be vital to the team’s success. With incredible players in the squad, Barcelona have what it takes to make a resurgence. Thus, Depay is right to remain positive despite the tough times for the club.
