We have been blessed to witness two of the best soccer players in the history of the game at the same time. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are names that will forever be remembered in the sport’s history. But after more than a decade of dominance, these players are nearing the end of their careers.

One plies his trade with PSG while the other returned home to Manchester United. Even though there are shades of decline, both still remain incredible in their game. The question arises, which player aged better? Who had better market value at 34?

Cristiano Ronaldo is a modern-day marvel

Cristiano Ronaldo was valued at a staggering $98 million when he was 34, however, that valuation reduced to $83 million as he got closer to 35. United recently signed the forward for a transfer fee of 15 million Euros, while the cost could increase up to 23 million Euros. The layout is significant for a player of 36 and Ronaldo will have a task on his hands to prove himself worth the money.

Often considered the greatest of all time, Messi’s career is unimaginable for normal players. Ever since he stepped his foot in Barcelona, his path to the very top of world football was clear. His latest success in the Copa America tournament with Argentina elevated his stature to even greater heights.

Messi, who turned 34 in June, was valued at $89 million just before his 34th birthday. The amount is just shy of where Ronaldo was valued at the same age. However, Messi is still ahead of Ronaldo in market value. While Ronaldo made massive revenue to Nike and United, Messi’s arrival caused the club to sell 830,000 jerseys in the first 24 hours.

It’s been a pleasure to watch these two players compete at an elite level and may it continue for as long as possible.
