According to reports, the 33-year-old has been designated for the assignment. The move comes after the signing of Greg Allen, who is replacing Hicks in the squad. Talkin Yanks shared the news on Twitter. The caption read, “Aaron Hicks has been designated for assignment.” Even though the Yankees have seven days to trade but it won’t happen. They will release Hicks without putting him on irrevocable outright waivers. The player had signed a $70 million extension ahead of the 2019 season and will exit with still $30 million left in his contract.

It is not an ideal situation for any player to be in. Sometimes it is not in your hand, and Aaron Hicks knows it. His last year’s performance has been significantly below the accepted level, and the same has been the case this season. After 28 games, he has only nine runs at an average of 0.188 and an OPS of less than 0.600. Overall Hicks has played 898 games and has scored 428 runs at an average of 0.230. He has 101 home runs to his name at an OPS of 0.713.
