Star outfielder and World Series champion Cody Bellinger loves video games. He calls himself and his brother video game nerds, and rightfully so. The slugger often carries his laptop while traveling for games. It helps him blow some steam off during breaks in between MLB match-ups. His appearance in one of the most popular games in the world showed the depth of his love for eSports.

Bellinger tries to keep up the same competitive spirit of an active season amongst his comrades, both on and off the field. The fan-favorite slugger loves to emphasize the benefits of forming competitive and close connections among teammates. He even credits their video game clashes as a big inspiration behind it. But Cody isn’t just a video game fanatic, he’s also an active member of the gaming community as well. Did you know that he plays a major character in one of the biggest video game franchises in the world?

Cody Bellinger spent most of his recovery time after his elbow surgery in 2020 playing games on his coveted Xbox One from lunch until dinnertime. He joked that he “hurt it on purpose with the elbow just so I could play more video games”. Talking about favorite genres, Cody likes to switch it up between playing action and shooting games; he said “I play them all the time”. He also plays one-on-one sports games with his friends.

One of his many prideful possessions includes a Nintendo 64 with a see-through chassis, which he has had since he was two years old! “I got the OG one”, the slugger stated proudly. His favorite games on that console include Super Mario, Super Smash Bros. (he prefers to play with Captain Falcon like most of us), and Mario Cart, in which he loves to use Bowser, a character that is very similar to his super-fast pace on the field.

According to Bellinger, video games give people the opportunity to stay in touch during tough times, such as the pandemic. When the world was facing a complete shutdown of communications, the slugger was playing Call of Duty with his teammates. The whole team got addicted to it at some point!

Cody Bellinger vs. Juan Soto Stats Breakdown: Which Player Is the Ideal Fit for the New York Yankees?

Bellinger thinks that he, Max Muncy, and Gavin Lux were the top three gamers on the Dodgers team. “You can’t just be good at baseball, you know, so you gotta compete in everything else”, he reflected. The Xbox One and the close bond formed during their Xbox parties were apparently big factors in the Dodgers’ 2020 World Series win. It’s very natural to learn to appreciate the pros of video games when someone becomes a huge part of one themselves.

Bellinger’s foray into Assassin’s Creed

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla had a worldwide release in 2020 across every platform. Ubisoft offered Cody Bellinger, a fan of the franchise since his childhood, to voice and act as a key character in the game. Understandably, he was ecstatic. He plays the Viking Otta Sluggasson in the world event of the twelfth Assassin’s Creed installment. The player has to beat his character in a challenge to progress further in the game. Bellinger seemed excited to talk about this new venture in an ESPN interview.

Cody focused on the gameplay and what he needed to do behind the screen, musing “The graphics are so realistic”. He had to go through a motion-capture process, much like the action movies that he loves. “You got a bunch of balls on you, motion sensors, and a tight suit,”, he described. “I would swing and walk like a Viking would, with his muscles out, all big.”. Cool Cody Bellinger felt cooler playing the Viking on screen, as it seems!

Otta Sluggasson’s club for Bellinger’s bat

Otta Sluggasson, AKA Otta, Son of Slugga, is Cody Bellinger’s character in the game. He was a Danish Viking who lived in the 9th century. Living near the border of Ledecestrescire and Sciropescire in a small estate by the Dudmastun Lake, a couple of ardent admirers and kids often surround the character and shower praise on him. “The Rocker of Rocks” and “the Hammer of Stones,” denote the character’s core strength. Much like Bellinger’s bat, Otta is seen wielding a big, spiked club that he hits stones with.

The protagonist of the game, Eivor, needs to defeat Otta in a timed challenge using a bow to beat Otta’s record of hits in the given time. Otta can be reached only after the player defeats all five dummies in the thirty-second-long quest. Upon completing it, the player is gifted with a Sciropescire mystery completion along with a few experience points.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla world event dialogues have many similarities with terms used in real-life baseball. Not only that, the quest completion also gifts the players with a special rock that has “Cody ‘B” etched on it!
