The Seattle Mariners clinched a miraculous victory against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, October 8th. The Mariners and the Blue Jays faced off at the Rogers Centre. It was the second game of the wildcard series between the two teams. The Mariners’ unimaginable victory sent a bunch of fans in particular into a frenzy.
Notably, the Mariners have entered the postseason after a long gap of over two decades. The last time that the team went beyond the regular season was in 2001. They swept the Blue Jays to win the wildcard series. The Mariners won the first game of the series by a 4-1 margin.

Halfway through the game on Saturday, the Blue Jays were seemingly poised for a comfortable victory. Interestingly, the Blue Jays happened to be the original favorites to win the wildcard series. But the Mariners had some tricks up their sleeves.

On Saturday night, the Seattle Mariners embodied a romanticization of baseball. The Mariners were trailing the Blue Jays by 8-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning. But the Mariners fought back by scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Following on, the team scored four more runs in the eighth and one run in the top of the ninth inning. Eventually, the Mariners defeated the Blue Jays on a 10-9 margin.

Mariners’ shortstop J.P. Crawford spoke about the victory to ESPN saying, “I was praying to the baseball gods to just let that ball sit.” Second baseman Adam Frazier added saying, “Those are the kind of moments you picture yourself in the backyard when you’re a kid.”
It happened to be the largest comeback margin victory for the Mariners and the entire MLB playoff history. The Mariners will next face the Houston Astros in the postseason.
