In a sudden move, the Pittsburgh Pirates have sent their No. 1 overall draft pick onto the development list. The decision comes after his recent minor league outings, where he claimed ten strikeouts at an ERA of 4. The Pirates gave this update on the Twitter handle. It read, “We have placed RHP Paul Skenes on the Development List and will not pitch again this season.”

The statement further read, “We’re excited and encouraged by the positive things Paul has been able to accomplish in his short time in the Pirates organization. He’s checked all of the boxes we aimed for him to check during the 2023 season. The goal now is to focus on a complete offseason in preparation for his first full professional year in 2024.”

This means the 21-year-old will have to wait for the next year to be on to the mound. It will be a great opportunity for Skenes as he will make his full professional season start next year. Given his girlfriend, Olivia, is also looking to start something after her final year in Gymnastics, Skenes’ promotion syncs with her goal.

According to elle.com Olivia said, “I know it’s coming to an end, so I’m trying to take in every single last memory I can, but I’m also excited to see what the future holds.”
