Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez became a sporting genius during his playing tenure in baseball. Post-retirement from the baseball diamond, he carried on with his intellect to the basketball court. However, that wasn’t as a player, but rather as a franchise owner. In 2021, ‘A-Rod’ joined the ownership group of the NBA team, Minnesota Timberwolves.

‘A-Rod’ became one of the richest MLB players after spending over two decades in the ballpark. Since he quickly turned into a marquee player with his stellar performances, he signed lucrative contracts with MLB franchises. When ‘A-Rod’ bought shares in the Timberwolves, his partner and joint stakeholder was e-commerce mogul Marc Lore. The co-founder of Jet.com, Lore was also the CEO of e-commerce for Walmart. ‘A-Rod’ and Lore agreed to $1.5 billion to purchase the Timberwolves alongside the WNBA team, Minnesota Lynx.

The commonalities between Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore

Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez and Marc Lore began with a 20% stake in the Timberwolves in 2021. But that could go up to 40% in 2022 and eventually 80% in 2023, making them the majority owners. In such a case, they would take over the major shares from Glen Taylor. Since 1994, Taylor has remained the primary owner of the Timberwolves, otherwise.
