According to MLB.com, it all has been possible because of the local baseball fans, including the co-founder and chairman of the Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA), Matthew DeSantis.
DeSantis on his trip to Bhutan met now-president of the baseball association, Karma Dorji. Being a man with a strong passion to make baseball accessible kids for free, Dorji defines the journey of this as brutal but soothing.
On a phone call, said Dorji, “There was no organization, there was no institution back then. The first thing we did is make a few social media posts. ‘Hey guys, we’re playing baseball this weekend. Is anybody interested? Please show up.'”
And the effort was fruitful, with 50 or 60 kids arriving to start Bhutan’s baseball dream. And since then, it has only grown bigger. The association also had its annual tournament, with hundreds of kids experiencing the competitive setup.
