Notably, both players played together for a season. Being the senior pros, they both had a great understanding. But during that time, Jeter put Mientkiewicz in a difficult position with a prank. The incident happened during the 2007 season when Jeter did not talk to Mientkiewicz. He then shared, “Posada comes up, and he’s like shaking his head, He’s like, You fu**ed up man. It mentioned that because of his comments earlier to the media, 2.7 million bottles of Derek Jeter were driven off the shelves. It put him in a mix of emotions. Though the fun part of it was that Jeter revealed to him that the letter was fake during the next game.

Doug recalled the start of the prank and shared it was a proper setup in which Joe Torre was also involved. Doug added that he was mad after he came across the truth. He aggressively called his teammate and said, “Are you f**king serious? Like, I took the ball. I spun them like, right on the back. I go, Look, I know these playoff games are easy for you, but I’m sh**ng the brick here. “

Meanwhile, Mientkiewicz had a decent season with the Yankees. He finished with 26 runs at an average of 0.277 and OPS of 0.789, playing a part in the Yankees’ qualification for the postseason. Even though Doug’s stay with the Yankees was only a season long, Jeter gave him a memory for life.
