For true baseball fans, certain traditions unique to their teams are sacred. Fans consider it unholy if any of the teams even remotely attempt to mirror traditions. Ardent fans don’t take it easy even in the ever-so-rare instances of such apparent blasphemy.

The New York Yankees stand as proud pioneers of the tradition of the revered roll call. However, with the Texas Rangers mimicking this at Globe Life Park did not go well with Yankees fans to begin with. The Rangers partaking in the Yankees’ flagship tradition sent out a signal to other teams too.

When the Philadelphia Phillies took to roll calling as well, it agitated the already irked fans of the Yankees. The Phillies, known contenders to the New York Yankees, instigated passionate comments from fans that were quite possessive of roll calling as a Yankees’ tradition. The turn of events threw light on a strange pattern. Though the Yanks fans were not on board with the tradition being mirrored by other teams, they did let out a warning sign.

As clear as they could be, this was a nod to the Rangers’ unfortunate byproduct of emulating the roll call practice. Well, it is not concealed that the Rangers who adopted roll calling experienced a sad aftermath. They experienced an nine-game losing streak. What if this is a kind of karmic intervention posing as ramifications for copying a tradition?
