In the modern MLB world, the New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge has taken the role of home run king. The 2022 MVP broke the AL record for most home runs with 62. This put him in competition with the MLB legend Barry Bonds. Though Judge never considered the same and accredited Bonds as the greatest, even after his steroid scandal. But when the San Francisco Giants legend was asked of the same, Bonds had a different answer.

It is widely recognized that the 7-time NL MVP possesses a personality that seems indifferent to the feelings of others. It goes the same with his philosophy related to his baseball records. Though he enjoyed his MLB career, it is fine with him about the alterations present might bring to his records. The same was his response when Judge closed on his 73-home run record. Instead of worrying about its brokerage, he wished Judge all the best.

Aaron Judge Credited Barry Bonds Legitimate Home Run Champ

Although Barry Bonds has achieved all the success in his life, the steroid scandal haunted his credit. It includes his home run record, which is yet to be broken even after two decades of its making. But the case was different as the Judge approached Roger Maris’ 61 home runs record, people pointed him as a new home run champ. But according to the New York Post, Judge opined differently and said, “The record’s the record. That’s what I go by. I watched him as a kid flip the ball into the bay with ease. That hasn’t changed.” It was a mark of respect from Judge for the Bonds. But the home run king thought otherwise.

According to Spotico.com, He said, “Go for it. The way he swings he might as well hit one a day and get past me. I don’t care. Why not?” It was certainly a tricky answer from Bonds. He wished Judge to break his record. 73 home runs in a season is a big number. Given that it was made in 2001 and still not broken, it tells about the effort needed to reach this level. But can Judge do it? Let’s analyze.

Will Judge Break Bonds Home Run Record?

In the current season, the Yankees captain has 31 home runs. Though the number is less, it has come in just 83 outings. It amounts to a home run per 2.7 outing. This is a brilliant average as Judge returned from the injury and has not played at his full fitness. Even at this rate, if the Yankees outfielder had played for a full season, he would have reached 60 home runs, which is not far from Barry’s record.
