The Angels Explore Options Beyond 2038 as Anaheim Stadium Lease Nears End

Let’s understand that this is a stadium impasse. Moreno definitively ruled out revisiting the proposed stadium deal with Anaheim. And that has collapsed amid a corruption scandal. With Ashleigh Aitken, Anaheim’s new mayor in office, he expressed openness to start fresh negotiations to extend the deal. However, Moreno believes the city presently lacks the appetite for such a venture.

With that, exploring lease options might help. The Angels have a lease at the Angel Stadium until 2029, with extension options until 2038. The 77-year-old acknowledges the uncertainty beyond that timeframe. But he highlighted his own advancing age and the unpredictability of further developments.

Arte Monero’s Mantra on Spending This Season

Money spoke about payroll adjustments. He shared that the Angels are operating with a reduced payroll this season. Nevertheless, Moreno insists that this is strategic planning, unlike lack of ambition. His words were, “I’m not going to spend money just to show that we’re going to spend money unless it’s going to substantially change the team.” Moving on, he stated, “I am in it because I believe we can build a team to win”. 

He remains confident about young players like Logan O’Hoppe, shortstop Zach Neto, and first baseman Nolan Schanuel. With sprint training here, they are investing in the facility in Tempe, Arizona. He even shared that renovations to practice fields and training facilities are set to start soon. There are significant plans for 2026. One can only wait and watch how his strategy is going to play out.
