It was a great last month for the New York Yankees, but the work is still incomplete. The reason is no big signings in the pitching department, which was one of the primary reasons for their fall last season. Though Gerrit Cole did amazingly well and nicked some crucial wins, the rest of the rotation only brought inconsistency, which is yet to be broken even after months into the off-season.

Undoubtedly, the 27-time champions have strengthened their offense with the signings of Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo. But with defense, they have yet to overcome Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s refusal. Given the Yanks chased him for months, missing his signing created a big void on the team. If they consider the current pitcher roster, this void increases. It warrants the former champions to make a move. But for this, the Pinstripes need to change their approach. Are they ready to do it? If ‘Yes’, can they do it?

Notably, apart from Cy Award winner Gerrit Cole, all faltered on the mound. It is visible in their stats starting from $162 million Carlos Rodon, who recorded an ERA of 6.35 with eight losses in 11 games, according to MLB.com. Clarke Schmidt and Nestor Cortes Jr. follow him, with an ERA of 4.34 and 4.97.

Given that these four are the main pitchers of the organization, these stats are concerning. Hence, the Yankees have to add a few more pitchers to strengthen the rotation if they want 2024 needs to be better. Do the Yankees still have any available options?

With Both Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell Available, Are the Yankees Ready to Splash the Money?

The New York Yankees have always been a super team filled with stars. However, it’s been a decade now they have witnessed the magic of Core Four. Can they revive it? Notably, the ERA under Jeter was a shining example of Yankees stardom. Though long gone, can shape up again due to Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery’s availability.

Given that the Yanks are looking for a defensive partner for Cole, they can target Montgomery and Snell. It will help them create a solid rotation on the mound, possibly a Core Four with fit Rodon joining the fold. The only worry is the money, which may cost $350 million to $400 million. With the luxury tax penalty already in place, the Yanks may not want to add to that.

However, having offered Yamamoto worth $300 million, this amount for a pair looks profitable as it gives them a Cy Young Award winner and a World Champion in return. Plus, they can use the method of deferrals to accommodate the two pitchers on the squad, making it a perfect off-season for a championship-bound team.
