On Friday, a total of nine teammates of the New York Yankees reached one-year agreements, including Nestor Cortes. The left-handed player, who has been a part of the team since 2013, was able to avoid arbitration. According to foxsports.com, the deal that was reached between Cortes and the team is for a total of $3.2 million, which solidified Cortes’s pitcher role in the upcoming 2023 season.

Cortes’ salary in the 2022 season was $727,000. It seems like the Yankees ace was able to bounce back this year, pulling off a $3.2 million deal. Which is a significant increase from his previous salary – proof of his hard work and his improved performance on the ballpark. And now when the Yanks have secured Cortes’ stay in the Bronx for another year, his teammate could not control applauding Cortes.

Nestor Cortes Jr. was the one-man show for the Yankees in 2022

Nestor Cortes’s 2022 season was a breakout. He exceeded expectations by dominating the mound. Racked up 14 wins, while maintaining a 2.44 ERA. His impressive performance didn’t go unnoticed as the Yankees signed him yet again this year. He also received recognition for his efforts, garnering votes for the AL Cy Young award and finishing in a respectable 8th place. Not content with just setting it by pitching 158 1/3 innings, leaving his previous career-high of 93 innings in the dust.

He was also handed the ball as a starter in spring training, made his first All-Star appearance, came out victorious in the postseason, and was selected to represent Team USA in the upcoming World Baseball Classic in March.
