Yankees have become a laughing stock after approving sponsor patches to jerseys

The team’s official channels recently reported that the uniforms will have a brand-new look in the second half of the season. Come July 21st; the Yankee jerseys will feature a patch on the left arms for both home and away uniforms. The patch will be the club’s way to honor their uniform sponsor, Starr Insurance.

According to Sports Uniform expert Paul Lukas, the Bronx Bombers are the 13th MLB team to welcome a sponsor so far. The agreement will last until 2031. But the jerseys are not the only item featuring the Starr logo.

Per an official press release, “Additionally, Starr signage will be placed on the Yankee Stadium outfield wall in front of both the home and visiting team bullpens, complementing Starr’s existing billboard signage above the right-field bleachers.

Baseball fans have not taken kindly to this news.

Traditional Yankee fans are furious at the uniform change

According to Foul Territory, the club will receive about $25 million yearly, and the hosts joked that the Yankees might need the revenue. The team currently ranks among the top-paying MLB franchises, even if the players’ performance doesn’t always reflect it on the field.

One of the fans’ most significant problems is that the front office needs to be more consistent with tradition. Before Hal Steinbrenner, Yankees owner George Steinbrenner was famously a stickler for rules. No beards, no long hair, and formal representation of the Yankees organization from everyone associated with it.

Most fans loved that era. But the recent alteration in the tradition has got fans enraged.

Some fans mocked the company and wanted to know if they would be getting a stadium named after them next.

Some wondered what would happen to the grooming rules, while one fan asked if the Yankees will use that money to acquire Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto. Both players have been the talk of the town after the All-Star Game.

At least until 2031, fans will always have a bone to pick with the Yankee front office. What do you think of this move?
