Times have been tough for the New York Yankees lately. But with team’s captain Aaron Judge off the injured list, the situation was getting under control. The Yanks clinched the first three games of the four-game series with the Tigers. But the last game brought another setback, adding to the list of their below-par performances. In this unfortunate loss, one of the Yankees’ shortstops’ errant throw is held responsible.

Optimistically, the Yankees seemed to be on a winning spree after prolonged humiliating losses until Thursday’s game against the Detroit Tigers. Unfortunately, it was Gleyber Torres who made an irreversible mistake that dramatically shifted the game in favor of the Tigers.

The contest was deadlocked at 3 runs each in the bottom of the 10th inning when Zack Short hit a grounder to the pitcher. Jonathan Loaisiga managed to get the out at second base, but Torres’ throw to first was described as “one of the worst throws,” veering far off course. This error allowed Kerry Carpenter to score easily, ultimately sealing a 4-3 victory for Detroit. Ensuing that, reacting to how the game turned out, Aaron Boone expressed his disappointment.

Yankees’ manager, Aaron Boone did challenge the play, “My first thought was maybe it was a takeout slide or something” but once the umpires reviewed the play it was evident that the Tigers won and the game was over. They lost on a walk – off for the 9th time. As a consolation he added, “We just didn’t mount much on the day. We had a great ninth inning, but we couldn’t finish it.”

It is not concealed that the Tigers have had a tough season too, which is why this win was so monumental for them. Tigers manager, A.J. Hinch mentioned “This has been a tough little stretch.”

This is not the first time Gleyber’s missteps have cost the team. Throwback to their loss to the Cubs, right before the All-Star Break. The Cubs ended up scoring three runs in the victorious seventh inning due to Gleyber’s missteps. Not to mention his miscue that led to the Yankees’ 10-inning defeat to the Boston Red Sox, dating back to June 11 this season.
