‘He’s Stupid. He’s an Idiot’- Barry Bonds Once Went off on Famed Designer for a $750,000 Publicity Stunt Campaign With His Record-Breaking 756th Home Run Ball

Barry Bonds will always be one of the finest hitters in baseball. His eye contact with the ball and then launching moonshots in every other game was a normal thing for the San Francisco Giants legend, Barry Bonds.

With 762 home runs from the plate, Bonds has the most home runs in his name. Even though the Giants legend has many controversies around his MLB career, Bonds dethroned Henry Aaron from the top, and to date, he has the record in his name.

August 7 marks an important day in MLB history, as Barry Bonds hit the record-breaking home run and became the new home run king in Major League Baseball. When Bonds hit the 756th home run, the record-breaking home run ball created a new ruckus. Notably, who would not want to keep the record-breaking home run ball? But Barry Bonds was glad to see the buzz around his hit-ball.

When Marc Ecko bought Barry Bonds’ record-breaking home run ball for over $750,000

This event dates back to 15 years in the 2007 MLB season. During an MLB game against the Washington Nationals in AT&T Park, Barry Bonds hammered his 756th home run to the center field. And he became the MLB player with the most home runs.

When Bonds hit the home run, a New York Mets fan caught the ball from the stands. And what he did next is beyond unexpected. Although he would have kept the home run ball as memorabilia, he preferred to mint money out of the home run ball.

And guess what? Ace fashion designer Marc Ecko bought the Bonds’ 756th home run ball for $752,467.

And after getting the home run ball, Ecko used it as a publicity stunt. He even conducted a poll and asked MLB fans whether he should brand the home run ball with an asterisk or give it to the HOF untouched.

But Bonds was not in favor of all this buzz around his hit ball. The Giants legend even called Ecko an idiot. “He’s stupid. He’s an idiot,” Barry Bonds said. He spent $750,000 on the ball and that’s what he’s doing with it?”

Later, Ecko branded the 756th home run ball with an asterisk that reflected Bonds’ alleged involvement with PEDs.
