A certain Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman is very keen to get his old teammate back in the clubhouse following his free agency availability for this offseason. Freddie Freeman, NL MVP candidate, wants to keep the reputation of the Boys in Blue intact with a certain name in the Dodgers uniform.

Although he lost the MVP to a member of his former team, the Atlanta Braves, he’s ready to give it his all in LA. The Dodgers had an unfortunate early exit from October after a brilliant regular season. As the club works to rebuild in the winter, will their plans include Jason Heyward? Freeman sure hopes so.

Freddie Freeman and his dream of playing with his “Best Friend” for a few more years

In a SportsNet LA coverage from this month, Freddie Freeman revealed that he was eager to get fellow slugger Jason Heyward back on the team again. Heyward just went on the free agency market this offseason after contributing much to the Dodgers’ 100-win season.

Freeman has nothing but praises to shower on his fellow slugger, “I was just so happy that he was in our organization and I don’t know what the offseason is gonna tell us but I hope he’s in a Dodgers uniform again next year.” He went on, musing, “He is my best friend, so I want him on my team again.”

Tagged as a renaissance by SportsNet LA, Heyward had a great run with the Boys in Blue before his free agency stint. His swinging technique has reportedly improved much under the Dodgers’ training after a few bad years. 2023 saw Heyward hit .269 with 15 home runs and 40 runs batted in, as he also patrolled the outfield. Will LA choose him again in the hopes of consistency?

Freddie Freeman is reportedly pushing for his team to re-sign because he shares a history with Heyward that extends beyond the realm of the MLB.

Heyward and Freeman were both inducted into the Atlanta Braves back in 2010. Since Heyward left the team in 2014, Freeman has been looking forward to getting a chance to play with his best friend again. Now that he has, he doesn’t seem very interested in letting their childhood journey end here.

The friends met back in their high school days as star players on their respective baseball teams. It looks like the beautiful bond that formed a few decades ago has been in bloom ever since!
