In 2001, Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter were playing at the All-Star game when Jeter stole A-Rod’s crush. Rodriguez had met Joy Enriquez earlier that year and asked her to come and watch him play at the All-Star game. But when A-Rod introduced Enriquez to Jeter, she decided to date him instead. A source close to the singer said that while she wasn’t that into A-Rod, she and Jeter felt an instant attraction.

According to the New York Post, the source said, “Joy wasn’t exactly sure of Alex’s intentions, but she and Derek just couldn’t keep their eyes off each other”. This left Rodriguez in the dust as the girl he liked started dating Jeter. Furthermore, what rubbed salt into the wounds was that Jeter and Enriquez were regularly covered by the media. This would have made it even harder for A-Rod to avoid. Luckily, he and Jeter were not teammates at the time.

He then went on to criticize Jeter for his lack of statistical success and not being a real leader for the Yankees. This forever put a dent into their friendship, something that A-Rod regrets even today.
