After a struggleful eight months last year, multiple MLB teams took a breath in the off-season. The reason was that it allowed them to correct mistakes for the upcoming season. The list includes the New York Mets, who lost the World Series battle without reaching the playoffs. Given that it happened after they spent the highest in the league, a lot of questions were raised. The prominent was, did they came unprepared for the campaign. It seems to be the case as the Mets looking to change that. However, the work remains.

The Mets have been at the forefront of spending but have not found success yet. Moreover, they have been penalized for breaching the MLB spending threshold, adding more negatives to their method. But they are not in the mood to change it. They want to use it to make a squad to click all the boxes for the upcoming season. However, the task is incomplete with two spots remaining to be filled. It has been a quite productive off-season for the NL East team. They have made eight additions to the squad while spending close to $59 million in total this season. The addition includes the names of Harrison Bader and Sean Manaea, with the latter being signed on a $28 million contract two-year contract. However, according to Danny Abriano, Senior Editorial Producer for SNYTV, the purchase is still incomplete.

While focusing on the options for the two-time World Series Champions, Abriano stated, “Mets have filled their outfield need with Harrison Bader and filled their rotation need with Sean Manaea. They have two needs left 1. Sign a legitimate DH: Jorge Soler, J.D. Martinez, or Justin Turner 2. Sign two relievers capable of being setup men.”

His suggestion for DH is understandable after the Mets tendered Daniel Vogelbach. Now, they need a replacement, and can be fulfilled by signing anyone from Soler, Martinez, and Turner. These three have done well for their respective teams, recording a healthy average and OPS over 0.750, which can make a good deal. However, given that the Mets need players on the mound, they would sign multiple players. In this case, what options are left for Steve Cohen’s team to explore in the market?

The free agency market is filled with multiple pitchers looking for a team for the 2024 campaign. However, the need for the best suited makes the task difficult, which leaves the Mets with limited choices. Interestingly, it includes the name of familiar David Robertson, who knows New York closely having played with the Yankees and Mets. But his forced departure to the Miami Marlins could be seen as a big negative. But given the circumstances, a reunion can not be declined. Plus, the Mets can make a good deal with Ryan Brasier and Matt Moore available as free agents.

In addition, there are a few contracted players that the former champions can sign. The options include Lucas Sims and Keegan Thompson, both on the bright side of age. Although both are yet to make a name for themselves, they can be good additions if they play to their capabilities. Which way the Mets would go to fill the vacancies?
