Sometimes even the best players can have a poor game. The New York Yankees’ ace Nestor Cortes Jr. also had a rare poor outing on the mound. After winning the first game of the series, the Yankees lost the second game against the Minnesota Twins.

Whether it is from the mound or the plate, the Pinstripes failed to perform from both ends. This defeat also ended the seven-game winning streak of the New York Yankees. Now, the Yankees must have to win the third and last game of the series to clinch the series.

Nestor Cortes Jr. has been a dark horse for the New York Yankees in the current season. However, unlike his other outings, Nestor failed to deliver a masterclass against the Twins. His pitches were predictable because the opponents’ hitters did not have any problem hitting the ball.

In the end, the Twins handed an 8-1 defeat to the Yankees. Talking about his game, Nestor admitted his mistakes. He also credited the Twins for being a good hitting team.

“I felt pretty good in the first inning. I was commanding all my pitches and threw them into the right areas… There were a few that got away from me… Fourth and fifth inning, I wish I could get back,” Nestor said to YES Network.

“But they are a good hitting team and they made me battle all night… I made a lot of competitive pitches. They were just wasting my really good ones and just hit the mistakes.”

After this game against the Twins, Nestor’s ERA dropped to 1.96 from 1.50. However, there are still over 100 games to play, and it will be wrong to judge someone by one poor performance. The Yankees will hope their best pitcher to get back to his best in the next game.

What do you think? Will Nestor be able to come back strong in the next game?
