Everyone expects the New York Yankees to be at the top because of their success in the past century. Struggling badly in the 2023 season, the playoff battle is moving towards an end before the expected timeline. Much of it has happened because of injuries, inconsistent players, and suspensions. Because of it, the fans have accused the team of overlooking the trade and not doing enough to strengthen the squad. But the base of trade failure was set up in 2022, which continues to haunt the Yankees in each game because of GM Brian Cashman.

Given that the Yankees needed to strengthen their squad and had multiple options to sign from, including Matt Olson from the Oakland Athletics, the management backed out of the deal. The decision has not gone well as even after the year its effects are visible. It has brought GM Cashman, under fans’ scrutiny, who is under pressure for a recent trade failure.

Matt Olson, in a Strike Zone, Continues to Hurt the Yankees

Matt Olson has been a star this season. Currently, on a contract worth $168 million with the Atlanta Braves, he continues to add more to it. The former A’s, who once looked like a new Yankees offensive star, is ruling the MVP charts with his astonishing performances.

Already having 107 RBIs to his name at an OPS of 1.003, Matt recently hit his 43rd HR of the season against the New York Mets, continuing his dominance on the mound.

Because of the team’s ongoing difficulties, it significantly appealed to the fanbase of the New York Yankees. One fan criticized Cashman for letting Olson go to the Braves saying, “Brian Cashman to prison.”

His statement reflected the Cashman’s decision to back out from the Olson deal as they did not want N0 1 prospect Anthony Volpe to go another side. Another passionate fan verified it by tweeting, “Thank god CashBall went all in on Donaldson and IKF and not Matt Olson. Genius level GMing.”
