Mike Trout, the most celebrated star of the Los Angeles Angels is in a tough spot now. While once his name was synonymous with excellence on the baseball field, his recurring injuries have hampered recent seasons. For the past few seasons, the phenom has been sidelined owing to multiple health issues leaving a void in the Angels’ lineup. Something similar has happened in 2024 as well.  

What was a seemingly minor ache has morphed into a nightmarish situation for Trout and the Angels. Mike Trout has a torn meniscus in his left knee. Clearly, “It’s just frustrating. But we’ll get through it.”

Yet another painful reality strikes Mike Trout

The most agonizing part for Trout however is the ambiguity surrounding the injury’s origin. “It’s just frustrating,” he expressed emotionally. He played an entire game just a day ago. In fact, he even stole a base and scored a run.  He shared, that a “little bit of ache” crept in during the third inning, but he brushed it off. He attributed it to a possible bump he didn’t notice.

However, the discomfort grew more intense as the game progressed. By the end, the once-subtle ache grew into a significant source of pain. Trout recounted, “It was really sore,” nevertheless alerting the training staff, hoping it was just a temporary annoyance.

The turning point came the next morning when “I couldn’t get out of bed,” he said. An MRI confirmed that it was a torn meniscus that required surgery. With that, a significant chunk of the season was stolen. 

Ron Washington’s plan for the Angels going forward

This setback adds another complicated chapter to Trout’s recent injury saga. The past three seasons have seen a combination of ailments, including a strained calf, a back injury, and a fractured bone. This unfortunate series of injuries has limited him to a mere 237 games out of a possible 486. This is really frustrating for both the 11-time All-Star and his team. After all, “Nobody wants to play more than Mike does.”

This turn of events places immense pressure on the remaining players. Mickey Moniak is expected to fill the void in center field, while veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar was recently signed to bolster the lineup.  However, replacing a talent like Trout is a hard nut to crack. Despite the ongoing struggles and losing record, Manager Ron Washington remains optimistic as he says, “There’s a game on the schedule. We’ll see what they can do with it.”
