Thanks to his tremendous baseball career, Derek Jeter had too many nicknames. Having played for over 20 years for the New York Yankees, the Baseball Hall of Famer is a source of inspiration for the coming generation of athletes.
When talking about his nickname, who better than Jeter to talk about? He went on to become from Mr. November to Mr. Clean and the Captain to Captain Clutch, and whatnot. Considering his leadership skill, the Captain became a synonym for his name.

Not many people are aware, but long before Jeter become an MLB phenom, his mother had given him a unique nickname during his younger days.
Derek Jeter had his mother nickname him “Old Man” during his younger days
Per an old interview with New York Magazine in 2014, Derek Jeter’s younger sister, Sharlee Jeter, discussed how Jeter became the Derek Jeter. And while talking about her brother’s younger days, she revealed why their mother named him “Old Man.”
In Sharlee’s own words, Jeter was very confident from a very young age. And the nickname came out after a young Jeter went off to his school with a unique look.

How did Jeter become a Yankees phenom?
There were several reasons why Derek Jeter was one in a million for the New York Yankees. When Jeter debuted for the Yankees, the Pinstripes already had better hitters on their roster. But the Yankees were still going trophyless because of the lack of leadership in their clubhouse.
