Turns out, as per Andy Martino of SNY, that the Cy Young winner is mutually interested too. But the plot thickens. 

After the Yanks’ “cautious optimism” turned into somewhat of a disappointment in losing Yoshinobu Yamamoto, they see their next best fit in Snell. That said, the package would not be complete unless his personal catcher from the San Diego Padres is behind the plate. Now, that’s a partnership in Pinstripes the fans would drool over!

Before the Padres acquired Gary Sanchez from New York, Snell’s performance was arguably so-so. The numbers speak for themselves. As posted by Talkin’ Yanks, he posted a 5.04 ERA across 10 starts. Nonetheless, since Sanchez took his spot behind the plate for the Friars, the LHP has been nothing short of phenomenal.

In over nine starts, the 31-year-old has carved out a 0.51 ERA. Guess what it’s proof of? Command and efficiency on the mound – exactly what the Yankees need now. Now that it’s established that the duo has the ability to pull off some great pitching-catching performances, will the Yankees approach Sanchez?

He aided the ace ‘Snellzilla’ recording one of the most commendable seasons of his career. With him behind the plate, Snell could take his fight in an already stacked Padres a notch higher. But do not forget, every coin has two sides!

On the flip side, he didn’t really add much value to the club in the batter’s box. However, as an elite defensive catcher, he could be a great aide with Zilla in the Yankees.
