The New York Yankees have been long suffering from setbacks, and they are trying their best to cope next season. Starting with high-value free-agent persuasions and trading in superstars, the Bronx Bombers are virtually trying their best to secure a promising lineup. However, certain existing members have become a thorn in the team’s side in the long run, with Giancarlo Stanton being a case in point.

While known for both his outfielding and designated hitting capabilities, the hitting part of him is posing a slight hindrance, if this season’s records are any proof. Stanton hit an unbelievable low of .191 this year, the lowest of his career, across 371 bats. Stanton hasn’t been through any recent injuries, but his inefficient mobility affecting his performance might be the reason why the Yankees are looking elsewhere for a prospective hitter. Who’s in the running for their consideration?

According to MLB personality Francys Romero, the New York Yankees are thinking about going after a certain designated hitter and outfielder of Cuban origin, Jorge Soler. The 2021 World Series MVP chose free agency just this year after finishing his one-year run with the Miami Marlins, where he racked up an impressive 36 homers, hitting .250 with an OPS+ of 128. What’s the scoop on their designated hitter prospect that the media has spilled so far?

Jorge Soler has been a part of Major League Baseball since 2014. The 2023 All-star has showcased his talents with several MLB teams, including the Chicago Cubs (2014–2016), Kansas City Royals (2017–2021), Atlanta Braves (2021), and most recently, the Miami Marlins (2022–2023). The 2019 AL home run leader’s recent club, the Miami Marlins, is one of the three teams that are running after his free agency availability, which certainly means they were more than impressed by the slugger’s playstyle. The third team in the run is the Seattle Mariners. Doesn’t he seem like a reliable Plan B?

The 2023 All-Star slugger might be the perfect fit for the New York Yankees clubhouse, considering Giancarlo Stanton desperately needs to get back in shape so that he can focus on his form while keeping his mobility intact. Manager Aaron Boone thinks the same. Praising Stanton’s hitting skills, Boone recently reflected on how the slugger needs to get back in shape.

“I think you’re going to see a leaner Giancarlo,” manager Aaron Boone said. “He’s always in great shape, but being a little lighter” will help Stanton to be “more athletic on the bases and not just an option in the outfield, but a good option in the outfield.” But nothing about that return can be said for certain as of now. Hence, the Bombers are left with nothing but to look for options.
