Aaron Boone’s Plans For Anthony Volpe’s Second New York Yankees Season

Boone points out that the New York-born shortstop’s strike zone discipline is a crucial area for improvement. Volpe’s batting average of .209  and 167 strikeouts highlight the need for a more nuanced approach at the plate. Boone elaborated, “I do feel like in his DNA is a guy that has a chance to really control the strike zone“. Emphasizing Volpe’s potential he added, “That’s an area where he’s got to improve, and I think will continue to improve.” But there’s more.

The adjustments go way beyond pitch selection. Boone emphasizes “taking away where teams found some holes and could exploit.” With that adapting to the big league pitching tendencies and learning to make full use of them himself are crucial for any young player’s growth. Boone’s wise words are that these skill developments are all part of not just being a young big leaguer, but rather any big leaguer. Volpe would have to make adjustments.
