First off, the 25-year-old Dominican outfielder walked off a single in the bottom of the ninth inning of the final game. With that, he drove, the winning run capping off a series that saw him bat a flaming .529.

The Astros pitchers uncovered Soto’s nightmarish presence at the plate, as he constantly launched rockets. On one hand, this is precisely the kind of production the Yankees craved when they traded for him. That’s a good sign for the Yankees despite being whipped by injuries this year. 

The Yankees’ pitching staff wasn’t dull either. They put up a masterclass in dominance, shutting down the Astros offense for a total of 15 scoreless innings. The starting rotation, which was led by the steady hand of Clarke Schmidt, prevented the Houston hitters from performing at their best. Nick Burdi who secured the victory with a nail-biting save, emerged as the hero in the final game. Even Bryan Abreu, who faltered the previous night, displayed an impressive resilience.

The Houston Astros had a tough time. Well, despite a valiant effort from veteran Jose Altuve, who hit a homer and a double, the Astros’ offense sputtered throughout. They stranded baserunners with high frequency and constantly failed to turn clutch situations in their favor. The Yankees’ pitching staff leveraged these vulnerabilities, leaving Houston scratching their heads.
