The rivalry between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox is a century-old rivalry; probably the oldest and fiercest in the history of sports. And when talking about the Yankees v/s Red Sox, who better than Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez to unfold things about the iconic rivalry of the game?

Recently, Derek Jeter accompanied Alex Rodriguez and ace broadcaster Michael Kay for the latest KayRod Cast. And it was a memorable episode for baseball fans, especially the Yankees fans.

The former two Yankees discussed several aspects of the game and their relationship over the years. While on the show, Jeter and A-Rod also opened up about the historic rivalry between the Yankees and Red Sox.

Derek Jeter was not welcomed in the streets of Boston

Although the Yankees and Red Sox have been arch-rivals for over a hundred years, it was even more intense when Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez played for the Yankees during the early 2000s. Because both the Yankees and Red Sox were at their peak.

And when Michael Kay asked, the former Yankees captain said the same. Jeter also credited the fans for making the atmosphere intense in the ballparks.

“I don’t think the rivalry has (never) ever been as intense as it was when we were playing. I mean, you had guys that hated each other… Jorge (Posada), Pedro (Martinez), Alex, Jason (Varitek)…”

“Nothing to hate each other now…,” Derek Jeter said. “I mean, you had everything. And it was the fans make the atmosphere. So, I loved playing against Boston, and then playing against Boston in the ALCS a couple of times does not get any bigger.”

When asked about people’s reaction when Jeter would walk in the streets of Boston, the former Yankees revealed that he did not feel welcomed.

“You can walk… You may hear some things. But you can definitely walk around. No mobs better all the time… So, yeah, you can definitely walk streets. But we weren’t greeted with much love,” Derek Jeter added.
