The biggest question of 2024’s off-season is where will Cody Bellinger land. The Chicago Cubs’ plans of re-signing the 2023 NL Comeback Player of the Year, might have just received a bit of a boost. Who’d have thought that this unexpected source their old friend, Jorge Soler would have a hand in this? Does this mean that SanFrans’ interest in Bellinger is cooling off?

Well, it is known that the Giants are desperate for offensive power, particularly after finishing 27th in slugging percentage in the 2023 season of MLB. They are reportedly eyeing Soler, who thrived with the Miami Marlins in 2023. Considering his primarily designated hitter profile, Soler appears to be a perfect fit for San Francisco’s needs. This is causing a butterfly effect in the Windy City.

How Will Jorge Soler’s Move to San Francisco Influence Cody Bellinger?

To elaborate, if the Giants land Soler, it’s likely that they’ll permanently halt their pursuit of Bellinger. The 32-year-old slugger smashed 36 home runs and boasted a .512 slugging percentage, earning his first All-Star selection and helping the Marlins reach the playoffs. This would greatly reduce the competition for the former Cubs outfielder. Though a reunion has not been publicly revealed the two parties have been closely linked and a return to Wrigley Field seems increasingly likely with fewer potential landing spots available.

Soler’s career path is intertwined with the Cubs’. He debuted for the Chicago Cubs at a young age in 2014 giving the world glimpses of power but never quite reached a superstar status. In 2017, Soler moved to the Kansas City Royals where he finally blossomed a few years later. He launched 48 home runs and even won a World Series title with the Atlanta Braves in 2021.

With San Francisco reportedly setting their sights on Soler, their interest in Bellinger could be waning. And his recent shimmer on the field might be enticing the Giants, which in turn opens the door for Bellinger’s return to his original territory.
