The two-way phenom, Shohei Ohtani, who electrifies Major League Baseball, has been through a storm of sorts. There were accusations of wrongdoing after the world learned that his interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, allegedly wired out a staggering $16 million. He may be great at baseball, but bad with his trusting instincts.

Recent developments have indicated that Ohtani is about to be officially cleared. On one hand, this chaos initially raised eyebrows. On the other, over time, a clearer picture has emerged.  Federal investigations are approaching their end and Major League Baseball (MLB) is poised to give Ohtani a quick interview. A mere formality, apparently. So will Ohtani be exonerated?

The reports suggest, “Major League Baseball is expected to quickly interview, and clear Shohei Ohtani of any wrongdoing once the federal government’s investigation is complete”. As this statement comes out, fans and Ohtani heave a sigh of relief. But what went wrong?

It seems that Ohtani’s biggest mistake in this whole scenario might be trusting the wrong person. Industry insiders have painted a picture of a naive athlete. Perhaps, one too trusting of his interpreter. As reported in USA Today, one source said, “Ohtani appears to be guilty of only having a poor taste in friends and being naive to his finances.”

As of now, the 39-year-old is currently in the process of going through a gambling addiction treatment. Reports further suggest that there is a court order that prohibits the former Los Angeles Dodgers’ interpreter from contacting the Japanese player. This restriction is a reflection of the betrayal that Ohtani has endured over the years, both in terms of a seemingly strong friendship and $16 million.

Now that the truth is out, the world waits for Ohtani’s imminent exoneration. Baseball fans are somewhat relieved that their favourite player is free from allegations, though there are some conspiracy theories doing the rounds. Ohtani may have been a victim, but his untarnished image, strong performances in the game and his character are a beacon of integrity.
