Another name rises as kindling, adding to the flames of the free agency frenzy this offseason. A former New York Yankees utility player is reportedly headed toward their AL East rivals, the Toronto Blue Jays’ dugout. Adding his name to the free agency hotshots like Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Juan Soto, will the slugger be able to win the hearts of the Blue Jays fandom, just like he did with the Yanks?

The Blue Jays have had their eyes fixed on clinching a particular trio for their dugout since last year. They will be more than happy to accommodate the slugger, given their ongoing lack of outfield power. Will they be the best fit for the slugger as well?

According to a Sportsnet report, Isiah Kiner-Falefa is used to playing in every position except as a catcher or a first baseman. That indicates that he will play fairly well in the outfield, the main area that the Blue Jays are focusing on right now.

The Blue Jays’ general manager, Ross Atkins, has reportedly been after three players in particular since last season. Other than IKF, they have been hellbent on clinching free agents Joc Pederson and Michael Brantley for their outfielder posts. It seems like they haven’t given up on that goal yet.

Among the trio, Kiner-Falefa is the easiest target given his lightning-speed hitting power. A factotum of sorts, IKF has proven his ability to provide solid defense across multitudes of positions. With a Gold Glove already tied to his name, he can easily act as a potential replacement for baseman Matt Chapman, who left the BJs this season.

The team has been looking to fill out the vacancies left in their second base, designated hitting, and left field posts. Even if IKF cannot be used as a starter or semi-starter, they can keep him as the primary utility choice off the dugout. Will Kiner-Falefa be able to garner as much love here as he did from the Yankees’ fanbase as well?

IKF has had a disappointing season this year. The Yankees were rumored to send him to a different team before the trade deadlines were close. They decided to keep him for the entire season instead. Despite the team’s declining popularity, IKF has been nothing short of respectful towards them. At every chance he got to open up to the media, he owned his mistakes and took complete responsibility for his bad form.

Falefa has always been aware of how invaluable the motto of winning is for the Yankees fanbase. His behavior toward his fellow Yanks and the organization itself was instrumental in garnering a significant change in the Yankees fans’ attitude toward him. This further justifies their support for him late in the season.
