He also captained the Yankees to the World Series title in 1978, months before his tragic passing in an accident on August 2, 1979.

He passed in a plane crash while practicing landing, aged 32. Notably, he wanted to learn to fly, so he can go back home early and spend some quality time with family. Everything was wonderful for him until that tragic accident.
