Being in baseball for over 100 years now, ceremonial first pitches have become a tradition. And baseball, as known by many, is an avid follower of traditions. Following up on the same, ahead of Sunday’s game between the Chicago Cubs and this season’s underdogs, Cleveland Guardians, at Wrigley Field, the Cubs called upon the first draft pick of NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks. But the first pitch went less than many would have expected it to.

While a good-thrown pitch is always celebrated, more often than not, worse-thrown pitches tend to steal the show. And something like this is what happened when the 17-year-old Connor Bedard came onto the mound for the Cubs to have a great start to the game.

The top draft of the Blackhawks has already earned quite a lot before getting selected to play in NHL. Considered one of his generation’s most tremendous ice hockey prospects, Bedard might have to take a lesson or two on how to throw a pitch.

As Connor stood before what looked like his team, the Cubs mascot took the catcher position, and the Canadian hockey player threw the ball in the air. It was not a usual pitch thrown in an MLB game to a hitter, but one which looked like what a fielder throws at the bases.

A good pitch might get unnoticed by baseball fans, but a bad one never does. And it wasn’t bad either, considering that it went straight from Connor’s hands to the mascot’s.

Fans showered upon Bedard with some light-hearted fun

Connor’s primary sport is not baseball, and he, from the looks of it, will be on a fantastic journey in the NHL. It does not matter if he didn’t throw a perfect pitch. After all, he’s not a professional ball player. Also, only some get the chance to stand on the mound and throw the first pitch to mark the beginning of the game. Hence, it was an achievement for the young star. But that does not mean that fans cannot have some light-hearted fun:

Commenting on the clip of Connor’s first pitch, fans wrote, “Tell us you’ve never played another sport without telling us … 😂”, “Biggest bust in NHL”, “Epic curve lmao”, and “So cool.”
