Gallen’s journey to this moment has been marked by stellar performances and occasional hiccups that have written his postseason narrative. With that, he’ll be attempting a feat that only Chris Sale of the Boston Red Sox accomplished in 2018. That is, starting the first game of the World Series after starting the All-Star Game.

Arizona’s Probable Starting Pitcher

The Miami Marlins had acquired Zac Gallen in a trade from the St. Louis Cardinals, who initially picked him in the 2016 MLB draft. Later that year, he made his main league debut for them before the Diamondbacks dealt him. As of today, he has made a name as one of the league’s top pitchers over the last two years.

Zac Gallen established himself as a vital member of the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff throughout the regular season. With an incredible 3.47 ERA across 210 innings pitched and an amazing 17 wins, Gallen’s performances were crucial to his team’s success in 2023. The 28-year-old established his status as the Diamondbacks’ ace with his ability to perform consistently under pressure. However, there were some setbacks in the NLCS.

Zac’s NLCS was a tough chapter to read. Even with his undeniable brilliance, he gave up a total of nine runs on 14 hits and four walks in 11 innings. This yielded disastrous results and the D-backs lost both of the starts in this series. This unexpected difficulty served as a reminder of how unpredictable playoff baseball can be, as even the best pitchers may face difficulties.

Nevertheless, as the New Jersey-born takes the mound in Game 1 of the World Series, he carries with him the weight of expectation, the hopes of a franchise and its fervent fan base. With five days’ rest since his last appearance, he’ll start at the grandest stage with a keen sense of purpose.

It gives you a little bit more motivation. And when you can get a little bit more, you take it”.
