Soto reached the minimum age required by MLB to sign a contract – 17 earlier 2023. The native of the Dominican Republic signed with a team during the window open to foreign free agents. Elian was reportedly planning to sign a contract with the New York Mets earlier. However, he switched to the Nationals in January this year. Like Juan, Elian Soto will begin his professional career with the Nationals despite the Nats trading his older brother to San Diego Padres. Longtime Nationals scout Modesto Ulloa has played a key part in getting the 17-year-old the recognition he deserves. While Soto was meticulously adhering to his brother’s regimen, Ulloa felt obliged to bring one thing up with the younger Soto. “Juan is Juan and you are Elian, Juan possibly could earn more than enough money to help support you for your whole life.
